Minnesota Vikings U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Time-Lapse Premiered by EarthCam More Than 16 Million People Tracked Progress for Minnesota’s New Fortress of Football FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New York, September 25, 2016 -- From the demolition of the Metrodome to the first touchdown in the new U.S. Bank Stadium, the Minnesota Vikings have relied on EarthCam, the leading provider of stadium construction cameras, to time-lapse the transformation. Since the installation, the webcams have been viewed more than 16.7 million times by people around the world, making them the most viewed stadium construction cameras in history. It was a top priority for EarthCam to document every critical part of the construction process for a complete archival record. EarthCam’s senior executives capitalized on the company’s 20 years of experience and expertise in documenting stadium construction to design a custom construction camera package. The powerful combination of live streaming video and time-lapse webcams included EarthCam’s 10 billion pixel panoramic system, the GigapixelCam X10. The cameras were installed in sub-zero temperatures in order to capture the early morning deflation of the Metrodome, which can be viewed in the cinematic opening shot of the movie. “From day one, the stadium webcams provided Vikings fans and other curious onlookers with a detailed look at the largest construction project in Minnesota history,” said Bryan Harper, Vice President, Content & Production. “The interactive, immediate, and high quality nature of the EarthCam technology led to incredible engagement via our content platforms. The beauty of this stadium is apparent to all, and we are thrilled to forever have this project archived in this manner.” The Minnesota Vikings had two important EarthCam milestones. EarthCam’s first GigapixelCam X10 was installed at the stadium to capture all the angles and details of the interior construction, creating a record-breaking 16 billion pixel panorama. EarthCam’s new Hall of Fame – a custom Instagram-like feed that showcases the best jobsite images throughout the life of any project – was added to the Vikings’ website in order to generate buzz and encourage sharing on social media for an interactive fan experience. “From the demolition of the beloved Metrodome to the inaugural home-opener at the game-changing U.S. Bank Stadium, it has been an honor to document this historic transformation of downtown Minneapolis,” said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. “We worked hand in hand with the Vikings organization to share their vision, and through this rewarding process, produced a time-lapse movie that I hope generations of Vikings fans will be proud of.” From January 2014 to September 2016, over one million high definition images were captured of the construction process for the architecturally-impressive stadium. Views of the project were made available online on multiple websites and also through the Vikings mobile apps so fans could truly be a part of the experience. EarthCam’s time-lapse editors and producers pored over the catalog of photos and hand-edited them into a professional time-lapse movie. Generations of fans to come can relive the 32-month project from start to finish in just 3 minutes.
